GET TO KNOW DR. DANE' JACOBSOHN
My name is Dr Dane’ Jacobsohn. One of the most frequent questions I get is Why Chiropractic? So I attempted to answer this question with my life story and how I got where I am today. As a child I always knew I wanted to work in the medical field. During my school years, everything I did was in preparation for my career as a Medical Doctor. When I was 17 years old, I obtained a bad injury from netball and was recommended a chiropractor. Sceptical but curious I made an appointment for the following day. As most patient’s today, I went on the internet to search for what exactly I can expect. This was the worst idea, it only frightened and agitated me with terrifying information and videos. Desperately, and out of options, I attended my appointment the next day. After my first visit I was more than pleasantly surprised and quite frankly shocked at how different it was to my expectations. I attended 3 appointments and I was cleared for sports. I looked into the profession and found that it was a very different but effective approach to healthcare. Unfortunately, there was not too much information available as it was and still is a fairly new profession. I contacted multiple chiropractors for shadowing to hopefully see what the hype was all about. I saw patients being treated with the utter most efficiency. Multiple patients came in claiming that surgery was their only option and therefore the Chiropractor is their absolute last resort. I saw 8/10 of those patients walking out with no surgery required after completion of their treatment which fascinated me to say the least. I could not fathom the idea of a “surgical” problem being resolved without any surgery. I was intrigued and my obsession with Chiropractic began. In 2015 I enrolled at the University of Johannesburg where I completed my N DIP (with distinction) in 2018, BTech (with distinction) in 2019 and finally MHSc (with distinction) in 2021. Over the years I became acquainted with the immense benefits of chiropractic treatment for infants and children with regards to colic, reflux, growth spurts and so much more. I have a special interest in paediatric chiropractic and attended multiple courses presented by Dr Mike Marinus from the Pediatric Network. While I was at the University of Johannesburg, I worked in the public chiropractic clinic on Doornfontein Campus for 2 years where I gained unparalleled experience and knowledge with regards to rare conditions and formulating treatment plans customised for each patient. I absolutely love my profession and I am very passionate about making a difference in every patient’s life that walks through my door. I pride myself in the delivery of quality assessments, diagnosis and treatments. My goal is to not only make a massive difference in the lives of my patient’s but also contribute to the profession in the form of ongoing research and awareness of the benefits.
